VETERANS PROGRAM
WELP is working with veterans as a continuing program in association with a Huntsville veterans’ facility. At this facility, the counselors recommend and encourage veterans to go out with WELP, as a therapeutic method, to explore the wetlands, install Wood Duck nest boxes, and learn about the environment and the wildlife within it. These veterans come from a variety of professional backgrounds including police officers, game wardens, etc. The group has made three (3) visits to the WELP site, reaching a total of 15 veterans. These visits occur on off days when the veterans are not meeting with their counselors. There are five (5) or six (6) veteran therapy groups in Huntsville, and we want to reach all of them with a single day workshop occurring in late fall and early spring.
