Hydrology and Environmental Engineering: This half-day course will introduce several topics in the fields of surveying, civil engineering, environmental and water resources engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, botany, and ecology.

 

Macroinvertebrates: This half-day course will introduce participants to the identification of common aquatic insects and their use as bioindicators.

 

Soils: This half-day course will teach participants about the biological, chemical and physical properties of soil, and what makes it is an essential and fundamentally important natural resource.

 

Geology: This half-day course will introduce participants to geological concepts, including the Earth’s composition, structure, and the dynamic shifting of the earth’s surface and subsurface.

 

Bird Migration and Conservation: This half-day course will introduce characteristics, behaviors, species, and the conservation of birds in Alabama. This course will also introduce field methods, such as mist-netting and banding, used to study these animals.

 

Herpetofauna of Alabama: This half-day course will introduce characteristics, behaviors, species, and the conservation of herpetofauna that occur in Alabama. This course will also introduce field methods using pitfall traps, funnel traps, and cover boards to study these animals.

 

Bat Conservation: This is short two-hour course that will introduce the importance of bats, along with their behaviors, threats, and conservation. This course will also include the spectacular viewing of a bat emergence at the Sauta Cave.

This year we are adding NEW CLASSES! We are currently pursuing avenues to have classes on survival skills, edible plants, trapping, astrology, and meteorology.
