DON'T MISS THIS GREAT EVENT!

WHEN /

MAY 12 ,2018

WHERE /

10139 AL HWY 79 S.

GUNTERSVILLE, AL 35976

ABOUT THE EVENT /

WELP is located on 80 acres of grassland, forest, and creeks approximately ten miles south of Guntersville, AL in the valley of Big Spring Creek. For years this area was a minnow farm that served the community well, but after many years of abandonment, some local stewards decided to begin the process to restore this property back to its historic and natural beauty. We have been at this site for a little over two years, and it is the ideal “classroom” for students and anyone in the community who wants to learn and experience the environment up close and personal.

The students and veterans that have participated in our programs are some of the few that have been able to experience the beauty this piece of property has to offer, and now we want to share it with the public.

Come and join us on a tour of the site and hear scientist, planners and landowners give their vision of the future of this place. They believe it is destined to become an environmental sanctuary for aquatic dependent wildlife such as ducks, otter, beaver, fish, turtles, and many species of macroinvertebrates. It will also benefit several species of migratory birds as they migrate across the states toward their destination.

Most importantly, this site will be an educational oasis for many individuals for many decades to come. It will provide an array of opportunities to study water, soil, trees and wildlife, and the site will serve as an environmental laboratory for many years as we monitor the effect of our wetlands and stream mitigation bank. We invite you to view the future of this site, and WELP, has to offer.

11:30 AM-12:00 PM

A second tour will be offered on golf carts for those who are unable to walk the distance during our first tour.
